Character.AI group chat alternative: several characters, one story
Updated
To get several characters in one story elsewhere, you have two routes: one narrator-style character who voices the whole cast, or an app that takes turns between separate character cards. On UnsavedAI, the Narrator and Grimm play every person in a scene, and you can build your old group as one ensemble character. For separate cards taking turns, SillyTavern's group chats work with a UnsavedAI API key.

Character.AI is a popular site for chatting with user-made AI characters, and people who enjoyed having several of them in one conversation usually liked one of three things: characters bantering with each other, being one voice among many, or a big scene where everyone reacts at once. Which one you are after decides the route. Banter and big scenes work very well with a single cast-voicing character. If what you want is each character keeping its own separate card and memory, you want turn-taking.

Rebuild your group as one ensemble character
If your favourite group was three or four characters, you can fold them into a single card at /chat/custom. Name it after the group, give each member two lines, and say that it narrates scenes and voices each member distinctly. For example:
Who they are: The Lamplight Society, three adult ghost hunters who share a van and a grudge. Odile leads, speaks in clipped sentences and is never scared on camera. Fitch is the sceptic who handles the equipment and narrates disasters like a sports commentator. Perpetua believes in everything and is right more often than the others admit.
Then add example lines where two of them talk over each other, because that teaches the model the dynamic faster than description: Fitch: "The meter's spiking." Odile: "Then stop pointing it at the toaster." If your old characters came from Character.AI, copy each one's greeting and definition first and compress them into those two lines each. Running multiple characters in one chat has tips on name labels and cast lists once the story is going.
House characters who bring a crowd
The Narrator builds any setting and voices everyone in it; ask for "a tavern full of people who all want something from me" and you get a crowd. Grimm runs a tabletop-style campaign with every innkeeper and villain voiced. Cosmo Featherstone, a retired stage ham, hosts murder-mystery weekends and plays all eight suspects himself. Rhonda Starling is a cruise entertainment director with a ship of passengers and a cancelled itinerary.
Separate cards in SillyTavern
If you want true turn-taking, make a key at /setup and connect SillyTavern with the SillyTavern guide. Import each character card, then put them together in one of SillyTavern's group chats. Characters you made on UnsavedAI can be downloaded as Character Card V2 files and opened there directly. On the Free lane replies are written one at a time and on Priority two, so in a busy group each character's turn arrives in sequence.
Questions people ask
Can I put two house characters into one chat?
Not as two separate cards. You can bring anyone into a scene through your own narration and the character will voice them, or use a cast-voicing character like the Narrator.
Will characters in an ensemble card talk to each other?
Yes. With example lines that show them interacting, one reply can include several of them reacting to you and to each other.
How many characters can share one ensemble card?
Three or four core members works best. Beyond that each one gets thinner, so bring extras in as side characters when needed.
