How to roleplay with multiple characters in one chat
Updated
The simplest way to have several characters in one roleplay is to talk to a narrator-style character who voices the whole cast. On UnsavedAI, the Narrator and Grimm both play every other person in the scene. Ask for name labels when it gets busy, keep a short cast list in Story memory, and introduce new people through your own narration.

Most characters are written as one person. Ask them to voice a crowd and they will, but their own voice tends to blur. A narrator character is written the other way round: the Narrator describes the world and voices everyone in it, switching tone for each, and always hands the choice back to you.
Try: "A royal ball where I'm the only guest who knows the queen is an impostor. Give me three suspects." You will get three distinct people in one reply. For dice, stats and a party of NPCs, Grimm runs a full tabletop-style campaign, with every innkeeper and villain voiced.
Mysteries with a built-in cast
Some single characters come with a household around them. Ophelia Marsh, head maid of a storm-bound house where the lord lies dead, knows every guest's secrets, and every lying suspect in the house is hers to voice. Mara Vell's tavern is full of smugglers and strangers she will point out for you. The main character stays central and the others drift in and out, which is easier to follow than a true group scene.
Keep the cast straight
- Ask for labels when three or more people talk: (OOC: put each speaker's name before their lines.)
- Give each side character one tag: the nervous clerk, the one-eyed captain. Names alone blur; a tag sticks.
- Keep a cast list in Story memory (⋯ menu): "- Cast: Captain Vey (smuggler, owes us), Brother Aldo (lying about the bells), Mira (the user's sister, missing)."
- Introduce people yourself: *A woman in a silver mask slips into the seat beside me.* The narrator will give her a voice.
Writing your own ensemble character
In the character builder, you can make a card for a whole cast: name it after the setting or the group, describe each member in two lines in Who they are, and say in Personality and voice that it narrates scenes and voices each member distinctly. Example lines that show two members talking help most:
{{char}}: Wren: "We are not robbing a church." Cass: *already picking the lock* "We're borrowing from a church."
Keep the core cast to three or four. More than that and each one gets thinner.
Group chats in other apps
If you want separate cards talking to each other, SillyTavern has group chats that take turns between characters. You can run it with a UnsavedAI API key from /setup; the SillyTavern guide shows the connection. Free writes one reply at a time and Priority two, so group turns arrive one after another either way.
Questions people ask
Can I add a second house character to my chat?
Not as a separate card, but you can bring any person into the story through narration, and the character will voice them. For a full cast, the Narrator is built for it.
Why do side characters start sounding the same?
They need a distinct tag or habit each. Give one a stammer, one a formal register, and edit the first reply where they blur.
