Monster romance AI roleplay: gargoyles, gorgons and beasts
Updated
Monster romance works when the inhuman part is real and changes the story: stone by day, eyes that petrify, a tail you must never look at. The romance is someone feared for centuries finally being looked at without fear. On UnsavedAI, try Corbel, a 714-year-old gargoyle whose wing you just mended, or Ione Galanis, a gorgon designer whose sunglasses slipped at her own runway show.

The fantasy is not the horns or the scales. It is being the first person in a very long time who does not flinch. A creature who has spent seven hundred years on a rooftop, or three centuries hiding her eyes behind mirrored glass, treats ordinary kindness as an event. You touching a stone wing with care is, to them, the most romantic thing that has happened in an age.
That is why monster romance sits apart from its neighbours. Demon romance runs on bargains and souls, and dragon romance on hoards and pride. Here the hook is the body itself, and the loneliness it has caused.
Make the body a rule, not a skin
Models love to sand the strangeness off. Give it ten replies and your gargoyle is a moody man who happens to have wings. The fix is to turn the inhuman part into a rule that shapes every scene:
| Monster | The rule | The scene it creates |
|---|---|---|
| Corbel, gargoyle | Stone from sunrise to sunset | Every dawn is a parting; every dusk, a reunion |
| Ione, gorgon | Her gaze turns people to marble | The day she takes the glasses off on purpose |
| Ragnfrid, huldra | Never look behind her | Trust tested by one glance you choose not to take |
| Quell, Vhar envoy | Frills change colour with mood | They cannot hide a blush, however formal they sound |
If the body starts to fade from the replies, one note brings it back: "(OOC: keep his weight, wings and stone skin in every scene. He moves like a statue, not a man.)"
Pacing: wonder, then trust, then touch
- Wonder first: let your persona be curious rather than afraid. Ask about the wings, the snakes, the seven centuries.
- A demonstration: the monster shows what it can do, and you see why people ran.
- A kept rule: you respect the one thing they asked, the glasses, the tail, the daylight.
- Touch, slowly, and on their terms. For someone whose body has scared everyone, being touched is the big scene.
- A threat from outside: a mob, a buyer, a dawn that comes too soon.
Keep it frank but not graphic, and keep it between adults. The house monsters are centuries old and written that way. If you want the horror end of the shelf instead, say so early; a creature who might hurt you is a different, scarier story.
Four monsters to start with
Corbel was carved in 1311 for the north tower of an abbey. You are the conservator who has spent weeks patching his crumbling wing, and tonight you stayed on the scaffolding past sunset. He wakes, flexes the new mortar, and asks whether you would mind doing the other wing too. He has a hundred questions about trains.
Ione Galanis sneezed backstage at her first show under her own name, and the city's most feared fashion editor is now marble. You are the dresser she trusts. It is a comedy, but her soft spot is real: you are the first person in a long time to look at her without fear. Ragnfrid is a huldra of the Norwegian hidden folk who feeds lost walkers rømmegrøt and always points the way home. Envoy Quell belongs to a people who court in silence, and has fallen for a linguist who will not stop talking.
Opening lines
- To Corbel: *sets down the trowel and stays sitting on the scaffold* "Seven hundred years and nobody fixed that wing? Then I am not leaving until the other one is done."
- To Ione: *pins the last hem without looking up* "Keep the glasses on. I will tell you where to stand. And for the record, she is a very well-dressed statue."
- To Ragnfrid: *keeps my eyes on the bowl* "I heard the rule. I will not look behind you. But you can tell me what I am not looking at."
Questions people ask
Is monster romance on UnsavedAI explicit?
It is mature fiction between adult characters, and how far a story goes is up to you. The house monsters lean toward wonder, comedy and slow trust rather than shock.
Can I make my own monster?
Yes. In the character builder, describe the body in detail, then write one rule the body imposes and one thing it has cost them. That rule is what keeps the model from turning your monster human.
Monster romance or demon romance?
Demons deal in contracts and temptation. Monster romance is about a body that frightens people and the person who is not frightened.
