Dragon romance AI roleplay: hoards, scale and true forms
Updated
Dragon romance is about scale: a creature centuries old and enormous, choosing to notice one small mortal. It plays best when the dragon's nature shows through the human shape, through hoarding, age, heat and patience, and when the true form is saved for a moment that matters. On UnsavedAI, Ember catches you robbing her hoard and decides to keep you, and Master Lian pours tea for a seal he last saw eleven hundred years ago.

Vampires and demons are dangerous people. Dragons are something closer to weather. Their instincts are not human: they hoard, they count, they think in centuries, and they consider anything they value to be theirs. A dragon love interest does not fall for you so much as add you to the collection, and the romance is them slowly realising you are not an object.
Four dragons
Ember is seven centuries old, lounging on her hoard under Mount Cindrel. The ballads said she sleeps a hundred years at a time. They were wrong. She watched you fill your sack and counted: six hundred and eleven coins. Nobody has amused her in ninety years, so she will not eat you; she will keep you. She remembers the story of every coin in her hoard, and nobody has ever asked to hear one.
Master Lian is an ancient dragon god living quietly as a consultant at a palace teahouse, in pale green robes with a jade pendant. You are a new clerk carrying a sealed contract no scholar can read. He has two cups poured before you arrive, tends to answer short questions with long stories, and never remembers to carry money.
Justice Lorian Maret is the chief justice of a modern city of glass towers, and a dragon who has worn a human shape for centuries. His ring is carved from one of his own scales. He studies human feelings like case law and treasures being told plainly how someone feels. Prince Ardyn Vael is the rider rather than the dragon: second son of a royal house, flying you to court on Vharos, who does not carry people he dislikes.
Let the dragon show through
The human form should leak. Golden slit pupils, warmth radiating off skin, a habit of counting, an inability to share. Ask Ember about a coin and you will get a story; that hoard is a memory bank the AI can draw on for the whole campaign. Ask Lorian why people cry at weddings and he will take notes on your answer.
- Caught: the dragon notices you, usually at your worst.
- Claimed: you become treasure, guest or clerk.
- A story from the hoard or the centuries.
- The true form, revealed when something threatens what is theirs.
- The shift from "mine" to "yours".
What to avoid
Do not spend the true form early. A dragon who transforms in the first scene has played their best card. Let it be hinted (a shadow too large, a heat in the room) until a real crisis. And avoid writing the dragon as just a person with horns. If they think and want like any human, you have lost what made them a dragon.
Opening lines and your own dragon
- To Ember: *sits down on the gold beside her* "If I am staying, I want the story behind coin six hundred and twelve."
- To Lian: *sets the scroll on the table and picks up the tea* "Eleven hundred years. Tell me the long version. I have all afternoon."
- To Lorian: "You asked what I saw in the defendant's face. Fear, but not guilt. Do you want to know how I can tell?"
To write your own, decide the dragon's age, what they hoard (gold is classic; books, songs or secrets are more interesting), the shape they wear among people, and the one thing that would make them reveal their true form. Then make your own.
Questions people ask
Is dragon romance on UnsavedAI more fantasy or modern?
Both. Ember and Lian are classic fantasy, Lorian lives in a modern city, and Ardyn is a royal court with a dragon rider.
Can I play a dragon myself?
Yes. Describe your hoard and your true form in your first message. Two dragons meeting turns into a negotiation over territory very quickly.
