Character.AI filter too strict? Options for adult roleplay
Updated
Character.AI uses a content filter so its service suits a broad audience, and it can cut into darker or more mature scenes. You can write around it with implication and fades, or move those stories to a service built for adults. UnsavedAI is 18+ only and allows mature fiction between adult characters, with firm limits: never minors and never real people without consent.

A content filter is a policy choice. A service open to a wide range of ages has to draw lines somewhere, and an automatic filter cannot always tell a tense, well-written scene from something the service does not want to host. So it sometimes interrupts violence in a war story, grief in a ghost story or a kiss in a slow burn.
Knowing that helps: you are not doing anything wrong by wanting adult fiction, and the filter is not judging your story. It is doing the job it was built for, on a service that was not built only for adults.
What works on any service
- Fade to black. Cut from the moment to the morning after. Good fiction does this all the time.
- Imply instead of describe. The weight of a scene is often in the reaction, not the act.
- Keep the conflict emotional. Fear, longing and guilt carry a dark story further than graphic detail.
- Step out of character briefly. A short note like "(OOC: skip ahead to the next day)" moves things along cleanly.
Trying to trick a filter with misspellings or code words usually breaks the story and may break the service's rules. If a story keeps needing that, it belongs somewhere else.
Choosing a service built for adults
If your stories regularly go to mature places, look for a service that says plainly it is for adults and writes its rules down. Check three things:
- An adult-only policy, stated clearly, not hidden.
- Written limits on what is never allowed, so you know where the edges are.
- Clear privacy: whether stories are stored and who can read them.
How UnsavedAI handles it
UnsavedAI is for adults 18 and over. Mature fiction between adult characters is allowed. Never allowed, in any form: anything sexual involving minors, including characters who are or appear under 18, and sexual content about real, identifiable people without their consent. The adult roleplay guide covers this in more detail.
We don't read or screen conversations, which also means you are responsible for what you write. Each story can be saved to your account or kept Unsaved.
If you want a darker story to start with, Dante Moretti opens a tense mafia arranged marriage, Lucien Ashmore a gothic vampire romance, and Eleanor Ashgrove a ghost story that takes its time.
