Talkie AI alternative for story-driven roleplay

Updated

Talkie is an app for chatting with AI characters. If you want those chats to build into longer stories, look for long context, characters with a real scenario, and features that track how a story grows. UnsavedAI runs in the browser with 90+ house characters, about 61,000 tokens of context, and a bond level and chapter titles that grow as your story deepens.

From chats to stories

A chat is a conversation; a story has somewhere to go. The difference usually comes from three things: a setup with stakes, a character who wants something, and enough memory that what happened last night still matters tonight.

If your favourite chats keep resetting to small talk, the fix is less about the app and more about having those three pieces in place.

What to look for

  • A scenario, not just a personality. "Rival idol hiding in your ramen shop" gives you a story; "friendly and cheerful" does not.
  • Long context, so callbacks land days later.
  • A way to see progress: something that marks how far the relationship or plot has come.
  • Characters you can make or bring yourself, in a format you can take elsewhere.

Story features on UnsavedAI

Every house character has a personality, scenario, greeting, example dialogue, suggested first moves and its own scene. As a story goes on, your bond level with the character grows and chapter titles appear, so a long romance or adventure reads like something with a shape. You can also give characters gifts, which they react to in the scene.

Stories can be saved to your account and continued on any device, or kept Unsaved. If none of the house characters is quite what you want, make your own at /chat/custom or import a SillyTavern or Chub card, and the same story features apply.

Language and voice

Characters reply in the language you write in, so you can play in Spanish, Portuguese, Korean or whatever you are most comfortable with. Read-aloud voices are English. If voice is central to how you play, try a few replies read aloud before deciding.

Characters to start with

  • Kiko Aoyama: the nation's sweetheart is hiding in your ramen shop.
  • Han Jun-seo: the idol everyone loves only drops the act with you.
  • Prince Caelan Vire: the cold prince you married to end a war.
  • Yuki: an ancient fox spirit with strong opinions on your snacks.

Try an opener that gives them something to react to, such as: "I lock the shop door, flip the sign to Closed, and slide a bowl across the counter. You have ten minutes before your manager finds you. Talk."

Questions people ask

Do I need to download an app?

No. UnsavedAI runs in the browser on phone or desktop, and you can add it to your home screen.

Can characters speak?

Replies can be read aloud in English voices. Characters write back in whatever language you use, but the voices stay English.

Can I keep a story going for weeks?

Yes. Save it to your account and continue on any device; a context of about 61,000 tokens keeps a lot of it in view.
