Replika alternative for roleplay and stories
Updated
Replika is built around one ongoing AI companion you get to know over time. If you want stories instead, with different characters, settings and plots, a roleplay site fits better. UnsavedAI has 90+ characters with their own scenarios, from cozy slice of life to fantasy and romance, and you can still keep one long story going with a character you care about.

A companion app centres on one relationship: a single character who is mainly about you, your day and your conversations. Roleplay is fiction. You and a character are both in a story, with a setting, other people and things that happen.
Neither is better. But if you have found yourself wanting a plot, a world, or a character with their own life and problems, that is a sign you are after roleplay.
Keeping the warmth
If what you love is a gentle, ongoing connection, cozy characters are the closest fit. They have their own lives, so conversations do not revolve only around you, but they are kind and they stay.
- Ivy Hartwell: runs a late-night café and listens.
- Sam Rivers: your oldest friend, a cabin fire, and finally the talk.
- Theo Park: your streamer roommate, who pauses the match for you.
- Nadia Brooks: your oldest friend, who never said how she felt.
On UnsavedAI, a bond level grows as a story goes on, so a long relationship with one character still feels like it is going somewhere.
Or build a companion of your own
At /chat/custom you can write your own character: a name, a greeting and a description of who they are and how they talk. Give them a life of their own, a job, a worry, a habit, so they have things to bring to the conversation rather than only asking about yours.
A greeting that works for a companion-style character sets a small scene instead of asking a question. For example: "*The kettle clicks off just as you come in.* Rough day? Sit. I made too much soup again, and you are going to help me not waste it." That gives you something to answer and a place to be.
Trying stories for the first time
If you have only ever chatted with one companion, roleplay can feel strange for a message or two. Start with a character whose setup does the work: you arrive, something is already happening, and you only need to react. Write a sentence or two about what you do and say, and let the character carry the scene. Within a few replies most people stop thinking about the format and start following the story.
Privacy and continuity
You choose per story whether it is saved to your account, so you can pick it up on any device, or kept Unsaved. We don't read or screen conversations. More on that in private AI roleplay.
Remember that these are fictional characters. If you are going through something hard, talking to a person you trust or a local support line matters more than any story.
Questions people ask
Can I keep one long relationship with a character?
Yes. Save the story to your account and keep returning to it; the bond level grows and chapter titles appear as it deepens.
Is it only romance?
No. There are cozy, fantasy, adventure, mystery, horror and supernatural characters as well as romance, and you can make your own.
Do I need an account?
Your first messages work without one. A free account lets you keep going and save stories.
