How to move a JanitorAI bot to SillyTavern or another site
Updated
You can move a JanitorAI bot when its definition is visible: copy the personality, scenario, initial message and example dialogs into the matching fields of SillyTavern or another site. Keep it for personal use, note the creator's name and a link, and never republish someone else's bot as yours. On UnsavedAI, paste the fields into /chat/custom, keep it private, and export it as a Character Card V2 for SillyTavern later.

A bot is someone's writing. JanitorAI lets creators decide whether others can see a bot's definition, and that choice is the line to respect:
- Visible definition: fine to copy for your own private play elsewhere.
- Hidden definition: the creator chose to keep it to themselves. Don't try to dig it out.
- Your own bots: move them anywhere, any way you like.
- Keep the creator's name and a link to the original with your copy, so you remember whose work it is.
- Don't publish, sell or reupload someone else's bot, even edited. If you want to share a version, ask the creator first.
- The avatar is often someone's art. For a private copy keep it if you like, but for anything shared, make your own picture.
Which field goes where
| JanitorAI | SillyTavern | UnsavedAI builder |
|---|---|---|
| Personality | Description, the main box | Who they are, plus Personality and voice |
| Scenario | Scenario, under Advanced Definitions | Where it starts |
| Initial message | First message | Their first message |
| Example dialogs | Examples of dialogue, under Advanced Definitions | Example lines |
| Creator name and link | Creator's notes | Your own notes, kept private |
Many Janitor bots put everything, looks, history and voice, into the personality field. That is fine: paste it whole into SillyTavern's Description, or split it on UnsavedAI between Who they are and Personality and voice if the split is obvious.
Into SillyTavern
- Open the character panel and create a new character.
- Type the name, then paste the personality into Description and the initial message into First message.
- Open Advanced Definitions and paste the scenario and example dialogs into their fields. Add the creator's name and link to Creator's notes.
- Save, then start a chat and check the first message appears.
{{char}} and {{user}} work in SillyTavern exactly as on Janitor, so you do not need to edit them. If you prefer to import a file rather than paste, see what a character card is; SillyTavern reads V2 cards directly.
Onto UnsavedAI
Open the builder at /chat/custom, paste each field using the table above, and leave it private. Publishing for everyone is for characters you wrote yourself; a moved bot stays in your own list.
The chat's ⋯ menu can download a character you made as a Character Card V2 file for SillyTavern or copy it as text for JanitorAI, so one tidy copy on UnsavedAI becomes a backup that works in all three places. That export is also the easy way back if you edited the bot and want your version on Janitor again, as long as it is your own bot or the creator agreed.
Bring the story, not just the bot
A moved bot starts fresh. To continue a chat, copy your chat memory and write a short recap, then open with it:
(OOC: We are continuing an earlier story. So far: Vera agreed to train {{user}} for the regional tournament, five weeks remain, and {{user}} just found out her brother fixed the match she was banned for. She does not know {{user}} knows. Pick up the morning after, at the school.)
Three or four sentences with names, what each person knows and where the scene stands are enough. For moving a character from Character.AI instead, there is a dedicated path at /from-character-ai.
Questions people ask
Is it allowed to copy a JanitorAI bot for myself?
When the creator made the definition visible, keeping a personal copy to play elsewhere respects that choice. Publishing or selling it does not, unless the creator agrees.
Can I move a bot whose definition is hidden?
No. A hidden definition is the creator's decision to keep it private. Find a similar bot, or write your own with how to make a JanitorAI bot.
Will the bot play the same in SillyTavern?
The words are the same, but the model and settings are not, so it can sound different. Use the same model and similar settings to stay close.
