"Model not found" error in SillyTavern or JanitorAI: fixes
Updated
"Model not found" means the provider reached your request but has no model under the exact name your app sent. Most often it is a typo, capital letters, a name carried over from another provider, or a model that was renamed or taken offline. Copy the name from the provider's model list. On UnsavedAI the names are gemma-4-12b and gemma-4-31b, all lowercase.

Every model on an API has an ID, a short string such as gemma-4-12b, and the provider matches it character for character. The friendly display name you see on a website, like "Gemma 4 12B", is usually not the ID. Wordings vary: "model not found", "the model does not exist", "invalid model", or just a 404.
Be careful with that last one. A wrong URL can also come back as a 404, and it needs a completely different fix. If the error mentions a model, it is about the name; if it is a bare "Not found", suspect the address.
Causes, most common first
- A typo or the wrong form: capitals, a space, a missing dash, or the display name instead of the ID.
- A name left over from a previous provider. Switching providers often keeps the old model field, and in SillyTavern an imported preset can set the model too when "Bind presets to API connections" is on, which it is by default.
- The model was renamed, retired or is offline right now.
- The model exists but is not on your plan. Some providers say "not found" for this, others say access denied.
- The URL is wrong, so the request lands on a path that answers 404 for everything.
Fixing it in your app
- SillyTavern: click Connect, then pick from the Available Models list instead of typing. If there is no list, type the ID exactly into Enter a Model ID. Labels can change between versions.
- JanitorAI: edit the Model field in your proxy configuration, type the ID exactly, save and reload the tab.
- Other apps and code: many fetch the list from the base URL plus /models; pick from that list rather than typing.
- After importing a preset, open the connection panel again and check the model it set.
Which cause do you have?
- The error names the model or lists available ones: a naming problem. Copy one of the listed names.
- A plain "Not found" with nothing about models: the URL.
- The same name worked yesterday: the model is offline or was renamed. Check the provider's model page.
- One model works and another fails on the same key: almost always the plan.
The same error on UnsavedAI
Our gateway is specific about which case you hit: - "Unknown model. Available models: …" means a typo; the message lists the right names. - "The requested model is not available." or "The requested model or endpoint is unavailable." means the name is right but that model is not being served right now. Models shows what is online. - "This model is not included in your plan." means gemma-4-31b on Free. Use gemma-4-12b, or move to Priority; your keys pick up the new plan by themselves. - "No healthy model worker is available." means the model is restarting. Wait a minute or two. - A bare "Not found" is our front door refusing the path: JanitorAI needs the URL ending in /v1/chat/completions, SillyTavern the one ending in /v1.
The exact names, with copy buttons, are on the Setup page.
Questions people ask
Are model names case-sensitive?
Treat them as exact, because many providers do. On UnsavedAI, type them in lowercase with dashes: gemma-4-12b, gemma-4-31b.
Can I use a model name from another provider with UnsavedAI?
No. Model names belong to each provider. Here only gemma-4-12b and gemma-4-31b work.
My app has no model field. What now?
Apps without one ask the provider for its list. If the list comes back empty, the URL or key is wrong, so fix those first.
The name is spelled right but I still get an error. Why?
Then it is the plan or the model's status, not the spelling. On UnsavedAI, gemma-4-31b needs Priority, and a model being restarted comes back within a minute or two; Models shows which are online.
