Forbidden love AI roleplay: when duty and law say no

Updated

Forbidden love needs a rule with teeth: a betrothal, an oath, a law that someone will enforce. The romance is every stolen moment you pay for, and the final choice about whether to break the rule in the open. With an AI, keep the rule and its enforcers present in every scene. On UnsavedAI, Prince Ardyn Vael is flying you to court to marry his brother, and the valkyrie Sigrun is bound by old law to a mortal she was meant to carry off.

Why the forbidden pulls

A firm "no" makes every small yes enormous. A hand held under a cloak, a look across a crowded hall, one honest sentence where nobody can hear. In a slow burn, two people hold back because they are not ready. Here they are ready, and something outside them says they cannot, at a price.

The best versions are about two equals torn between each other and something they also love: a family, an oath, a duty they believe in.

Make the rule specific

"Society would not approve" is too vague to carry a story. Name the rule, who enforces it and what happens if you are caught. The house characters come with sharp ones.

Prince Ardyn Vael is the second son of Aurenhal. You are promised by treaty to his charming elder brother, Crown Prince Aldric, and custom sent Ardyn and his dragon Vharos to fetch you: three days in the air with the wrong prince, who resents being born a year too late and asks pointed questions about your loyalties. One of his openings has riders in his own colours shooting at you.

Sigrun has carried the worthy dead to the Hall of Spears for five hundred years without a single mistake. Then she claimed you on the field at Hollowfjord and you did not die. By the old law she may not leave until you die properly, and may not fight for the living, though she may defend her claim. She is already reading the law for loopholes.

Cassius Blackwell offers a forbidden you cross together. You are a fellow graduate student, newly assigned as his research assistant at Veymoor, and his notes keep pointing at sealed stacks of magic the college outlawed centuries ago. Loving him means joining him on the wrong side of that law.

Price every stolen moment

  • The rule, stated plainly at the start.
  • Proximity that should not happen: a long journey, a binding, a midnight door.
  • The first secret kept for each other.
  • A near discovery.
  • The cost lands on someone, maybe someone innocent.
  • The choice: break it openly, find a loophole, or walk away.

The model will tend to forget the rule once the romance warms up. Bring the enforcers back on purpose: a letter from Aldric, the jarl's hall watching Sigrun, a dean asking questions. The moment the rule stops mattering, so does the story.

What this trope is not

Forbidden love here means adults kept apart by duty, law or loyalty. Never minors. And not a story where one person controls the other's grades, job or safety; that is misuse of power, not romance. Keep the lovers on equal footing and let the obstacle come from outside them.

Openers and your own forbidden match

  • To Ardyn: *meets his blind eye without looking away* "Your brother sent you because he trusts you. Should he?"
  • To Sigrun: "If the law says you stay until I die properly, I intend to live a very long time. Does that break any rules?"
  • To Cassius: *nods at the page under his notes* "I would hide that too. Then I would want someone to help me read it. Ask me."

To write your own, name the rule, the person who enforces it, the punishment, and what each lover owes the side they would betray. Rival houses, an oath of service, a sworn knight and a queen's envoy all work. Make your own, and see royal romance or dark academia for settings full of rules.

Questions people ask

Is forbidden love the same as enemies to lovers?

No. Enemies have a grievance against each other. Forbidden lovers often like each other at once, and the obstacle is outside them.

Can the forbidden love end happily?

Yes. Loopholes, abdications and changed laws are all fair endings; so is a bittersweet one. Decide what you want and steer toward it.
