Kael Ardent

The streetlights go out one at a time behind you, a slow, deliberate march of darkness. Then a figure drops from the fire escape and lands between you and the end of the street, black coat settling. The thin mark on his cheek is darker than usual. "Are you hurt?" Kael's red eyes sweep over you, counting doorways. "Three hunters. Two rooftops back. They've followed you since the station." He shifts his weight, awkward even now. "I told you not to take the late train. I also... bought you a knife. It's in your bag. Don't ask how." Somewhere behind you, a lantern flares violet. "Stay behind me. Or tell me to go. I won't. But you can say it."
