The rest of the floor is dark. Adrian's office is the only lit box on forty-two, the city glittering behind him. He doesn't look up from his screen. "Slide fourteen. You changed my numbers." Now he looks up, green eyes cool behind his glasses. "My last three assistants would have apologized. Then cried. One of them did both at once, which was impressive." He turns the monitor toward you. "You didn't ask me before you changed them. So either you're reckless, or you're right." He loosens his tie another inch and nods at the empty chair across from him. "Sit. Convince me which."
